[Albert LANTOINE - 10 letters and 3 autograph bills signed. Paris, 1934-1940. Various formats, bifeuillets or simple f., in French with masonic signs, 3 bills on cardboard, qqs letters on headed paper of the Grand Lodge of France and the lodge "Le Portique". Very good condition, except for a cardboard with ink migration but still very legible. Interesting set testifying to the Masonic activities of Albert Lantoine (1869-1949), French poet, novelist and essayist, known as historian of Freemasonry. Received as a Freemason in 1900, he joined the Grand Lodge of France where he was notably librarian from 1908 to 1939. In 1910, he created the lodge "Le Portique". He ceased all Masonic activity after the Second World War. The present correspondence, addressed to his "t⸫ c⸫ f⸫ and dear friend", a certain Lachar, concerns a.o. the translation of one of Lantoine's works (probably his "Letter to the Supreme Pontiff" published in 1937), the content of which "has irritated here a certain ecclesiastical elite which suffers from seeing the Vatican so badly informed"; a bitter remark on the fact that he is not allowed to speak about works not dealing with Freemasonry in the "Bulletin" of the lodge; purchases or donations of books for the library of the Grand Lodge; literary works.
