Maurice de GUÉRIN - Journal, letters and poems; published with the consent of his family by G. S. Trébutien; and preceded by a biographical and literary study by M. Sainte-Beuve,... 2nd edition revised and considerably increased. Paris, Didier, 1862. In-8, 215 x 130 mm, blue morocco with lace decoration signed Gruel, spine decorated with five nerves, gilt edges (spine slightly rubbed and uniformly faded). [4], xxxvi, 475 pp. Portrait in frontispiece, 1 plate of notated music. Enriched with 2 autograph letters from Félicité de Lamennais (1782-1854), signed "F.", dated Paris, August 20 and 28, 1846 (2 bi-fold of 3 p.), to a "dear friend" and to "Mon cher Ange", probably her brother-in-law Ange Blaize de Maisonneuve. Both concern his search for a "small property [...] to finish my days, for I am more and more disgusted with men and the world". Maurice de Guérin attended Lamennais' community at La Chênaie, in Brittany, in 1832-1833. Autograph letter signed by "Georges" to his sister Amélie de Bruyn, dated St-Roch, October 1871.
