S.l., [2nd half 18th c.]. Small quarto, 29 x 20 cm, 61 ff, brown ink on watermarked laid paper, erasures and corrections by another hand of the period. Soft 19th c. green paper boards. Paper slightly browned, title soiled, occasional spotting and slight ink migration, otherwise very legible; boards rubbed, spine a little worn. Rare collection of the rules of the Congregation of the Oblates of Saints Gaudence and Charles, founded in 1616 by Charles (Carlo) Bescapè (1550-1615), spearhead of the Counter-Reformation, secretary to St. Charles Borromeo and later bishop of Novara. This manuscript was most probably composed at a time when the congregation was undergoing a major expansion, thanks to Bishop Giberto Borromeo who, after obtaining authorization from Rome in 1737, drew up a new rule for the oblates, approved in 1738 and confirmed by Pope Benedict XIV in 1741. Enriched with 4 documents from other hands of the same period, same format (4, 4, 3, 4 ff.), in Latin.
