KAZUKI SAWAGUCHI - Kokon Sanpôki. [Treatise on ancient and modern mathematics].
Kyôto, 1793. 6 volumes in-8, sewn in the Japanese style, blue cover, label printed on each first plate (small stains on a plate, some smears).
The first edition of this treatise appeared in 1671. According to A. Horiuji, Sawaguchi Kazuyuki is credited with being the first to publish a series of problems that were correctly solved using the "tianyuan" process, which clarified and facilitated the equation of problems. The "tianyuan" procedure is based on the fundamental idea of creating a framework in which one can calculate with known numbers as well as with the as yet unknown number one is trying to determine.
