J. DUBAR - Trips of H.M. Caroline, Queen of England, to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Palestine. Translated from English.
Ostend, P. Scheldewaert, 1825. 3 volumes bound in one strong volume in-12, blond half-basane, smooth spine, title piece, covers not preserved (rubbed binding, fragile jaws). 3 lithographed frontispieces in black from Mouqué depicting a portrait of Queen Caroline, that of Bartolomo Pergami and Queen Caroline's entry into Jerusalem.
"The princess, equipped with the strongest recommendations, and possessing means not usually available to individuals who travel to these lands, more often to trade than to learn, gave the most complete report ever published of all the holy places of Palestine, such as Nazareth, Galilee, Canaa, Bethlehem, etc., and the most complete description of the history of the city. But what above all will inspire great interest in the present moment is the description of Greece, in which we find very judicious observations on the morals, religion, costumes, etc., of the different peoples that today make up this nation. There are descriptions of Athens, Corinth, Coroni, Argos, Mycenae, Sieyon, Eleusis... all places which are the scene of great memories and which today are the theatre of the struggle of a people against its oppressors.
