Pierre AELBERTS / JACQUES BAINVILLE / HENRI MASSIS [& ALII] - Set of 11 plates from the "Brimborions" collection The "Brimborions" collection (published from 1943 to 1973) remains, if not the most remarkable, then at least the most characteristic of the publishing talent of Pierre Aelberts (1899-1983). It consists of small plates printed in a maximum of 51 copies on Dutch paper, vellum or laid paper, as the case may be.It offers, in the original edition, short texts of great literary quality, by writers of more or less established renown. Refractory to any form of self-censorship or complacency, Pierre Aelberts - although interned by the Germans during the Second World War - did not hesitate to publish, from the 1950s onwards, authors who were rather disapproved of or ostracized by the Republic of Official Letters. He also testified to an erudition as discreet as it was eclectic: to take just one example, who, in his time, among the readers of Apollinaire, knew that Louise Lalanne (v. 519) was the author of a letter to the German army. This culture of refined scholarship led him to unearth luminous texts, unknown or forgotten, which he endeavored to present in the form of small typographical masterpieces. Which by the judicious choice of an appropriate typeface and a harmoniously balanced page brings a delectable pleasure of reading (V . Auquier (Jean-Jacques et Aelberts (Alain), "Pierre Aelberts (1899-1983), art editor and eclectic bibliophile" Anhée, DISMAS.
