[ LIGHTS OUT ] [ LIGHTS OUT ] ANTHOLOGY. Poems. Drawings. Catalogue of the 1st exhibition. June 25 to July 10.
Paris, Éditions des Réverbères, 1938. Brochure in-4 agenda, stapled.
Original edition of this issue, a sort of "special edition" of the magazine edited by Michel Tapié and Jean Marembert, illustrated by the artists exhibited: Louis Cattiaux, Aline Gagnaire, Simone Bry, Pierre Ino, Jean Janin, Jean Lafon, Geneviève La Haye, Marcel Laloe, Lambert Rucki, Jean Marembert, Pierre Minne, Roger Sby, Ulrich Senn, Michel Tapié, Pierre Vérité, Gio Colucci. Texts by Noël Arnaud, Henri Bernard, Louis Cattiaux, etc. Poem by P. Sabon.
"Les Réverbères" is a literary and artistic group, original and innovative, initiated in 1938 by Michel Tapié, Jacques Bureau, Jean Marembert, in which Noël Arnaud, Camille Bryen, J.F. Chabrun, Jean Jausion, etc. also took part.
This group did much more than publish literary magazines and poetry booklets. It organized theatrical evenings (it staged Tzara, Ribemont-Dessaignes and Apollinaire) as well as jazz concerts (notwithstanding André Breton's oukaze against music).
He even had his own orchestra (with the occasional participation of Django Reinhardt).
Finally, he mounted one or other art exhibition (see below n° Michel Tapié).
The name of the movement is to be understood as a tribute to Dada and its founder: Tristan Tzara. Indeed, it echoes the last words, repeated several times, of the play "La première aventure céleste de Monsieur Antipyrine".
During their existence (from April 1938 to July 1939) "Les Réverbères" will show an overflowing vitality stopped in one fell swoop by the entry into the war (cf Michel Fauré "Histoire du surréalisme sous l'occupation : Les Réverbères - La main à plume" La Table Ronde 1982).
It is not surprising that Jean Cocteau took under one of his diaphanous wings this new and young avant-garde with a promising future
