JAPAN] MANUSCRIPT MAP OF THE SIEGE OF OSAKA. Japan, 19th c. or earlier. 93 x 100 cm (folded: 24.5 x 27.5 cm), on Japanese paper, pen and ink, enhanced with watercolour, numerous captions in Japanese with some extensions on cleverly folded butterflies, red stamp (on front and back). Some worm work with minor damage to the text, otherwise well preserved. Remarkable historical map tracing the siege of Osaka, a series of battles fought by the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu to destroy the Toyotomi clan. The document covers the two main episodes of the siege: the winter campaign of 1614 and the summer campaign of 1615, which ended in the defeat of Toyotomi Hideyori.
