Georges Bouillard (Paris, 1862 - Peking, China, 1930), was promoted to engineer in 1884, after brief functions in the North of France, he was hired by the Société d'études des chemins de fer en Chine in September 1898. In 1900, thanks to his knowledge of artillery, he distinguished himself by his feats of arms during the siege of the Legations district by the Boxers. In 1901, Jean Jadot, who wished to return to Brussels for a short time, submitted Bouillard's candidacy to replace him; after difficult negotiations between the Belgian and French administrators, it was finally approved in 1902. At the request of the Chinese government, Bouillard drew many maps of the Chinese railway network; he published a first work in 1919, "L'État actuel des chemins de fer chinois". As a correspondent of the École française d'Extrême-Orient and the Touring Club, he wrote these studies and guides on Peking. His important archives (maps, drawings, photos) were bequeathed by his Cantonese wife, Zhu Derong, in 1932 to the National Library of Peiping.
