MAMBOUR - Lot 478
MAMBOUR Auguste MAMBOUR (LIÈGE, 1896 - 1968) - The Péliklan. Satirical, humorous and illustrated deflating organ with valves. N° 1. Liege, May 1926. 44 x 29 cm. 4 pp. Illustrations by Auguste Mambour. "This bi-monthly newspaper was created by representatives of the young Liège painting scene such as Auguste Mambour and Edgard Scauflaire, and some literary figures such as Hubert Dubois and Robert Denoël. The publisher Pierre Aelberts [1899-1983], who reprinted it in 1975, assured us that the text [...], which appears on the first page, was due to Denoël. The title of the paper, Aelberts explained, had been coined from the name of a student café, 'Le Pélican,' which was located downtown, not far from the university." We thank Henri Thyssens.
