Amédée LYNEN (1852-1938) - Scene of a night sword fight. S.l., 1909. Color lithograph, 465 x 560 mm, under gilt cardboard mat, glass and light wood frame of the period, 605 x 710 mm. With autograph dispatch signed by the artist, under his lithographed signature: "to the friend V. Willems". Victor Willems (1877-1917), Belgian fencer, had won the bronze medal in the team competition of the Olympic Games in London in 1908. Fencing was one of Lynen's passions, and he frequented the Léopold Merckx et fils fencing club, rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères, 43, in Brussels. Spectacular sword fight scene between a gentleman and two thugs. Two frightened ladies stand behind him, while a man - aggressor or victim? - lies at his feet, wounded and with a broken sword.
