The book has eleven chapters. Its hundreds of short essays and nearly 400 photographs illustrate walls and towers, imperial palaces, temples and shrines, gardens and parks, alleys, mausoleums, famous scenic spots, waterways and passes, handicrafts, and various cultural objects such as theater and temple festivals. It is also illustrated with a large fold-out map, 2 maps (recto/verso) out of the text as well as several maps in the text. 1 sheet of format printed on one side only, of smaller format bound at the end of the volume. It should be noted that it was written in classical Chinese, which differed from most travelogues and guidebooks of the time that used vernacular language to describe landscapes and objects.
