[Antoine de SAINT-EXUPÉRY ]- 26 sketches, mostly caricatures, unsigned. [1929-1930]. Various sizes (from 14 x 8.5 cm to 27 x 21 cm), mostly in blue pencil with red, sometimes black and green highlights, on various papers, mostly cut from sheets of lined paper (watermarked "Extra Strong"), qqs-uns on the white reverse of Qqs-uns slightly yellowed, otherwise well preserved. Nice set of portraits and various characters, featuring picturesque characters, men and women, most of them in bust, including two pilots wearing leather helmets topped with aviator glasses, a monk, some obviously taken from life, others more schematic and fanciful. Two of them bear a handwritten inscription: a portrait of a woman with a handwritten note "Para el Signor/ Douy/ Feu Rubens [underlined twice]" and a portrait of an aviator with the caption "Bien attablé devant la terre [?] Provenance: Paul Dony, who met Saint-Exupéry during the period when both worked at the Aeroposta Argentina, from 1929 to 1931 (typed consignment note from the Munich publishing house Verlag Schnell & Steiner, 11.10.[19]61: "Anbei erhalten Sie 6 Originalzeichnungen des Saint-Exupéry"). These 6 original drawings, present in our set, were used to illustrate a book by P. Dony dedicated to his friend Saint-Exupéry: "Der Mann der immer Ferien hatte", Munich, Schnell & Steiner, [ca 1955].
