[THE HOLY BIBLE, containing the Old and New Testaments: Newly translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. By His Majesty's special command. Appointed to be read in churches. Oxford, Jonh [sic] Baskett, 1739. 2 volumes in-12 narrow, 135 x 70 mm, polished black morocco, boards decorated with gilt "à la fanfare" composed of small irons with themes of flowers and palms, four-ribbed mute spines, entrenerfs decorated with gilt small irons, gilt roulette on the endpapers, Brokatpapier endpapers with various gilt decorations enhanced with red and green, gilt edges (period binding). (Gilding slightly faded, spines rubbed). Not paginated (n.c.). (Browning, front endpaper disbound, some tears and tears). Pocket edition published in the same year as the folio edition by Baskett, printer of Oxford University, in the early Georgian period. Adorned with an emblematic frontispiece depicting celestial wisdom and plates each containing 2 copperplate figures depicting biblical scenes. In-12, 135 x 80 mm, [16], 458, [2] pp. Polished red morocco, boards with the coat of arms of France framed with a fine gilt fleur-de-lys lace, spine with five nerves, entrenerfs decorated with a gilt crowned fleur-de-lys, gilt edges (period binding). (Worn, one headband missing, the other missing, corners and edges rubbed or even bare, worm work on the tail of the spine). Edition decorated with a coat of arms on the title, woodcuts, lettering and endpapers. Title and text, printed on two cols. framed with fillets. [36],576, cciv pp. 2 pl. red morocco, boards surrounded by a large right gilt lace, spine with five cross-hatched nerves, between the nerves decorated with gilt fillets and small irons, roulette on the necks, headpieces and endpapers, marbled paper endpapers, gilt edges on marbling (period binding). Top cover torn with small tears, small worm work on tail of spine, dark stain on corner of upper board, corners slightly dulled. Only winter part (out of 4) decorated with two plates. Printed in red and black on two col. TOGETHER 4 VOLUMES.
