Isidore Jacques EGGERMONT - Journey around the globe. America. Work illustrated with numerous engravings, plans and maps. Paris, Ch. Delagrave, 1892. In-4, full red percaline edition cardboard, gilt planisphere on the first plate, ornaments in black, gilt edges. 366 pp. 19 full-page maps and plans and numerous illustrations in the text. The Belgian diplomat Isidore-Jacques Eggermont (1844-1923) was also a distinguished traveler and photographer. He visited Egypt and Palestine in 1874 and toured the world in 1876-1877. At that time, he was advisor to the Belgian legation in Japan. At the end of 1877, he became secretary to the king of the Belgians in Ghent and in 1885, first secretary of the Belgian legation in Paris. He ended his life in the castle of Leignon (Ciney) which he had acquired in 1890. He published several works, including Le Japon, histoire et religion (Paris, 1885) and Voyage autour du globe (Paris, 1892 and 1900).
