Amédée LYNEN - Lot 273
Amédée LYNEN Amédée LYNEN (1852-1938) - Two watercolors for the postcard collection "De ci, de là, à Bruxelles et en Brabant". Watercolor and India ink, 11.5 x 18 cm and 12.5 x 19 cm on sight, signed lower right with mention of the place represented, mounted on cardboard. Under passe-partout and gilded glazed frames. Superb picturesque and atmospheric drawings, slightly larger than the postcard reproductions of this sought-after collection. These are views n° 7 : Marché aux fromages Saint-Géry (Saint-Gilles according to the ms. note on the back) and 164 : cabaret "le Diable au corps". Created in the wake of the satirical review of the same name, this famous literary Brussels café, now disappeared (the Leuven stove represented has however survived and can be found nowadays in the café "La Fleur en papier doré"), was the headquarters of writers and illustrators adept at the "zwanze", of which A. Lynen was one of the main animators. ATTACHED: - Postcard #7 (Cheese Market). Under gilded wood frame and glass. SET OF 3 PIECES.
