[EPHEMERA - AUSTRO-TURKISH WARS ]- 29 propaganda prints and news sheets in Dutch and French relating to the wars between the Habsburg Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Early Netherlands, 17th-18th c. Various formats, in ff. Soiling, a few tears without loss, a few browned ff., rare wormholes, 1 doc. incomplete, average condition. CONTAINS - Grooten Standaert van Mahomet. S.l.n.d. In-f°, 2 pp. Decorated with a large woodcut depicting an Ottoman standard. - Keyserlycken Coninck-brief. Antwerp, C. Bouttats, [1686]. In-fr. folder (torn in width but complete) decorated with 32 vignettes depicting the protagonists and scenes of the war. - 16 small prints (Bruges, Ghent, a.o.) containing reports of victories over the Turks, professions of faith, programs of theatrical performances, including one (in 6 copies) celebrating the exploits of General Georges Basta (a tragedy set in verse by a schoolmaster from Mouscron and performed by the pupils). - 11 periodical sheets with articles on the conflict: Nieuwe Tydinghen (Bruges, 1659), Nieuwe Vrijdaghsche Tijdingen (Bruges, 1663-1664), Antwerpsche Post-Tydinge (Antwerp, 1677, 1683, 1697), Gazette d'Amsterdam (1674-1675). Provenance: stamp "G.H." (not in Lugt).
