Ghent, Michiel Maes, 1700. Bookplate, 44 x 31.5 cm. A few small holes with minimal damage to the text, lightly foxed. Handwritten annotations on verso. List framed with typographical ornamentation and surmounted by the cross of the Trinitarians, an order founded in 1194 to redeem Christian captives from the Muslims. Many of the freed slaves come from the former Netherlands: Ghent, Bruges, Liège, Charleroi, Lille, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Ruremonde.
