[Brussels, 1770]. Engraved copper, 42 x 63 cm, signed "A. Cardon sculp.". Minor spotting and staining. Good condition. Spectacular original copperplate, by Cardon le Vieux (1739-1822), of this superb interior view of the collegiate church of Sainte-Gudule, decorated in 1769 by L.-B. Dewez with Louis XVI stucco, for the commemoration in 1770 of the fourth centenary of the miracle and veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. The decoration, which had suffered from looting and destruction during the French period, was restored and renewed in 1804. The engraving is dedicated to Charles de Lorraine, Governor General of the Austrian Netherlands, by Dewez, his first architect. ATTACHED: Period print of this copper. In modern frame. Marginal soiling and spotting.
