[DELL'ACQUA, Cesare & PORTAELS] Jacques-François-Dominiq - Lot 223
[DELL'ACQUA, Cesare & PORTAELS] Jacques-François-Dominique THIELENS - L'Ossentalliade. Poem in fifteen songs. [Illustrations by Cesare dell'Acqua and Portaels]. Brussels, Alker & Chotteau (printed by E. Marci), [1872]. In-8°: [108] pp. red chagrin, boards decorated with a double framing of gilt fillets and corner finials, gilt title on front board, spine ribbed with flowers and titled throughout, fillet on edges, comb paper linings framed with a gilt roulette, same paper endpapers, gilt edges, illustrated cover boards (period binding). Some light dark spotting and minor rubbing, otherwise a fine copy. A rare copy of this work entirely executed in photolithography, probably in a very limited number. This poem, dedicated to the chatelaine of Eynthout, was composed while the Thielens were on vacation with a group of friends at Ossenstal, a farm-castle in the heart of the Kempen region. Each day is immortalized by a song adorned with drawings taken on the spot by dell'Acqua and Portaels. The gilded title dates the work to 1873, not 1872, the date mentioned in the 2004 reprint and the (rare) online library records. Ref. UniCat : 3 ex. (Erfgoedbibliotheek H. Conscience, Ghent Univ., KU Leuven).
