[AUTOGRAPH] Frantz CHARLET (1862-1928) - L.a.s. to "Mon cher - Lot 111
[AUTOGRAPH] Frantz CHARLET (1862-1928) - L.a.s. to "Mon cher Commandant", with drawings. Tangiers, December 29 [18]82. In-8°, 4 pp. brown ink on laid paper, ink drawings in the same color and wash. Framed under double glass. (Mottling, a few small stains, slight migration of ink from drawings). Remarkable letter from F. Charlet (1862-1928), Belgian Impressionist painter and member of the Vingt group, written at the Hôtel Central in Tangier, while visiting Morocco with artist friends. "I will bring back several things that you will see on my return in March, and which I will exhibit at the Cercle Artistique or the Palais des Beaux-Arts with my friends Théo Van Rysselberghe and Darío de Regoyos [...]. He was less enthusiastic about Spain, and referred his correspondent to the articles by Lucien Solvay, his "traveling companion" in that country. In conclusion: "Belgium is the most beautiful country in the world in which to paint, and to live too, I shall never leave it". On the last page, he sketched "a few guys who will give you a better idea of Morocco [...]": "an Arab woman", "a Jew", "a mosque", "a door", "a slave", etc. ATTACHED: 3 notebooks of amateur drawings. [Ca 1910-1930]. In-8° (1 in-12) oblongs, black pencil, qqs washes. Average condition.
