First French edition of this collection of the main writings of the great English physician Richard Mead (1673-1754), a leading figure in 18th-century British medicine. Trained in Leiden in the 1690s, Mead was one of the most sought-after practitioners of his time: physician to Queen Anne, George I and George II, Queen Caroline - whom he encouraged to have the royal children inoculated against smallpox - he also treated Newton, Walpole and the painter Watteau. A specialist in poisons, scurvy, plague and smallpox, Mead was a pioneer in public health. The book brings together his treatises on poisons, plague, smallpox and measles (with the Rhazès text), scurvy, the influence of the stars on health, as well as Sacred Medicine and his Medical Advice. It concludes with an erudite essay on Smyrna's medals in honor of physicians. Illustrated with 8 folding plates. Ref. Douret, 134. Clément, p. 172. 2: Michel du TENNEDARD ou du TENNETAR ou du TENTARD - Eléments de Séméiotique. Part 1: Dictionary of Symptoms. Part 2: Dictionary of Prognostics. By M. M. d. T. (Covers torn off, 1 pdt faded, upper jaw split). Unique edition of this rare work devoted to medical semiotics, the science of interpreting signs and symptoms, a discipline that flourished in the 18th century and was considered one of the foundations of diagnosis. The author offers a double dictionary, of symptoms and prognoses, designed to guide the practitioner in observing and evaluating the evolution of diseases. Ref. Douret, 46. Clément, p. 181.
