[SECOND WORLD WAR - PRESS] The false "Soir" of November 9, 1 - Lot 44
[SECOND WORLD WAR - PRESS] The false "Soir" of November 9, 1943. 59 x 44 cm. Slightly yellowed, tears at folds. Very rare 1st printing with the date of September 23 under the advertisement announcing a public sale (to the right of the headboard). The famous fake "Soir" was distributed by resistance fighters of the Front de l'Indépendance to all newsstands in Brussels on November 9, 1943, just before the distribution of the stolen "Soir" by the occupying forces. It ridiculed Nazi propaganda, giving the population a burst of gaiety and hope. Hunted down by the Gestapo, many of those behind this sensational feat paid with their lives.
