Ghent, Jean Meyer, [1767]. Small in-4° : [8], xii, 84 pp. ; 15 pl. h. t. Restored title page. 19th c. half calf with corners, green embossed paper boards, smooth spine decorated, gilt title. Minor scuffing. First edition of the official account of the festivities organized in Ghent in 1712 by the Jesuits and Augustinians to celebrate the seventh centenary of the death of St. Macarius, archbishop of Antioch, who came to the city to die of the plague in 1012. The work, decorated with 15 plates engraved by P. Wauters (including one by F. Heijlbrouck) after Van Reysschoot, illustrates with remarkable precision the procession's allegorical floats (ship, crocodile, dromedary, swan, rhinoceros, elephant, etc.) and the great fireworks display on Friday Square. In addition to a description of the festivities and a list of participants in the cavalcade, the biographies of Saint Amand, Saint Livin and Saint Macaire are included. Ref. Vanderhaeghen, Bibliographie gantoise, 3856. Slipped into the copy, "Advertence de la part du Magistrat de la ville de Gand" [Gand, Jean Meyer, 1767] announcing the resumption of festivities following the restoration of His Majesty.
