Paschoud, 1809. In-8° : xiii-[1]-333-[3] pp. Contemporary marbled calf, spine gilt fleuronné, yellow tr. (False title partly disbound; binding rubbed with small gaps at head of spine, corners dulled, lower spine guard detached but complete). First Parisian edition long considered the original, a position disputed with the first London edition addressed to Dulau, dated 1808-1809 but suspected of being backdated. Vercruysse favors the London edition, but does not close the debate. Paschoud published a total of 4 editions in 1809. Our copy is the 1st edition, with errata and pagination errors noted by Vercruysse in some editions (p. 199 inverted, p. 260 numbered 262). Ref. Vercruysse, pp. 272-274. ATTACHED, 2 first editions by the same author, same format: 2: Oeuvres choisies du maréchal prince de Ligne, publiées par M. de Propiac, faisant suite aux Lettres et pensées du même auteur... Paris, J. Chaumerot (impr. de C.F. Patris), 1809. [4]-vi-444 pp. Contemporary half calf (some spotting, +/- browned, some underlining in blue pencil; head cap missing, small cracks in spine, corners worn). Compiled by Girard de Propiac, a modest compiler who no doubt intended to profit from the enormous success of Mme de Staël's "Lettres et pensées", of which no fewer than 4 editions appeared in the same year. Ref. Vercruysse pp. 292-294. 3 : Nouveau recueil de lettres du feld-maréchal prince de Ligne, en réponse à celles qu'on lui a écrites. Weimar, Bureau d'Industrie, 1812. [2]-177-[1] pp. marbled half calf with corners (Mottling with weakening of paper at bottom of front and 1st ff., a few pen corrections by an early hand). Front portrait engraved by Schwerdtgeburth after Jagemann. Ref. Vercruysse pp. 319-321. Prov. etiq. of the Jean Clavreuil bookshop. SET OF 3 VOLUMES.
