[AGATHOPEDES] Dr. WALLRAF PSEUD. de Renier CHALON - Numismat - Lot 244
[AGATHOPEDES] Dr. WALLRAF PSEUD. de Renier CHALON - Numismatik des Ordens der Agathopeden nebst vorangehender kurzer Notiz über den Ursprung und die Geschichte dieser geheimen Gesellschaft. Berlin, E.S. Mittler und Sohn [Bruxelles, Devroye], 1853. Booklet in-8°: 20 pp. 2 pl. paperback. Tears and small tears to spine. Facétie by Renier Chalon, numismatist and member of the Société des bibliophiles de Mons, who repeats his catalog of the false sale of the Count of Fortsas. In it, he describes in German 8 medals from the Société des Agathopèdes, a facetious society founded by himself and a few colleagues. The copy is complete with 2 litho plates by F. Müller (not his real name) reproducing the obverse and reverse of the medals, which are commented on with as much erudition as implausibility. The various grades of this order, attributed to pigs, are described, including museum curator A.G. Schayes. Schayes. In historical terms, the order dates back to the 16th century, no less. Chalon is also the author of other relevant and true numismatic contributions.JOINT: 2: Henri-Joseph HOYOIS - Musée bibliographique ; collection d'ouvrages imprimés et manuscrits, dont le moindre prix est de 1000 francs. Mons, Hoyois-Derely, 1837. In poor condition. Bibliographic curiosity left by H.-J. Hoyois, printer of the famous and facetious catalog of the Count of Fortsas.
