Gaston FERDIÈRE - 2 autograph letters signed to [Marcel Mari - Lot 431
Gaston FERDIÈRE - 2 autograph letters signed to [Marcel Mariën]. 31/12/45 and 15/1/46. 4 pp. in-8° square on headed paper. Gaston Ferdière (1907-1990), French psychiatrist and poet, was close to the Surrealists. At the psychiatric hospital in Rodez, where he was director, his patient was Antonin Artaud. Ferdière congratulates Mariën on "La terre n'est pas une vallée de larmes" ("The earth is not a valley of tears"), "a welcome change from the 'crayonneries' of the moment. He encloses a text "à la manière de Scutenaire" (4 ff. in-4° typewritten) and asks for Scutenaire's address, to whom he would like to write. He also sends him his poem "Le grand matin", dedicated to Jacques Prévert (2 ff. small in-12, printed recto verso, signed Gaston Ferdière). "I'd like Magritte to know this poem...". In his second letter, he insists on knowing Magritte's reaction. He mentions a conference he is to give in Paris on the art of the insane (under the title "L'aliénation créative") and asks Mariën if he could find a venue in Brussels. Set of 4 pieces.
