Michel THYRION - Monsieur J in the army. Note limiaire de Je - Lot 496
Michel THYRION - Monsieur J in the army. Note limiaire de Jean Paulhan. [Paris], Gallimard (Éditions Après Dieu), [1964-1965]. In-12. Paperback. A little literary mystification, rarely detected by booksellers, attributable to Michel Thyrion, a childhood friend of Tom Gutt, who, like him, became a surrealist in his late teens. He was very good at it, without forcing himself, as if he had instinctively come to embody "automatic writing", as the aphorism that serves as dedication testifies. The cover is a pastiche of Gallimard editions; the introductory note attributed to Jean Paulhan is not his own, and the drawing signed "Dubuffet" is by an entirely different hand. Total edition of 130 numbered copies. One of 100 numbered on ordinary paper (no. 18). A rare item. ENCLOSED, BY THE SAME ARTIST, VARIOUS FORMATS, PAPERBACK: 2: Les Bords de mer. Illustration by Marc MOULIN. Éditions Après Dieu, 1965. First edition printed in an edition of 100, one of 60 ordinary copies (no. 80). Enriched with a signed autograph letter from Michel Thyrion to André Stas. Spine faded. 3: Les pôles ennemis. Eight collages by André STAS. Brussels, 1975. First edition printed at 120 copies, one of 12 on laid paper signed by the author and artist (n° XVII). 4: L'Astuce du crochet. Four drawings by Gilles Brenta. Brussels, 1978. 5: Aventures et pensers de Monsieur J. S.l., Éditions Après Dieu, n.d. Original edition of 70 copies. One of 50 unnumbered. Enriched with a signed autograph letter from Thyrion to André Stas "Souvenir de mon passage dans l'Administration de la ville de Bruxelles". 6: Monsieur J à l'armée vingt ans après. Followed by Le Fils de Monsieur J. Une passerelle en papier, (1992). Edition of 120 copies. One of 100 ordinary. SET OF 7 PUBLICATIONS.
