BRUSSELS. Important set of about 770 old postcards and 3 not - Lot 9
BRUSSELS. Important set of about 770 old postcards and 3 notebooks. Beautiful set dedicated to Brussels, featuring around 770 postcards and 3 notebooks, mainly from the early 20th century and subsequent decades. They offer a vast panorama of the heart of the Belgian capital: neighborhoods, monuments, thoroughfares, social spots, commercial establishments and urban views, many of which bear witness to sites that have been radically transformed or have now disappeared. The maps include views of the Sablon, Brussels' main thoroughfares, the Royal Palace, Place des Martyrs and the port, as well as many aspects of the city's daily and commercial life. The set includes some fifty promotional or advertising cards issued by hotels, shops, restaurants and other establishments: Pipe automobile factories, Achille bowling alley, Brasserie de l'Yser à la Bourse, Brasserie La Lunette, J. Van Doren shirt factory, Thielemans fishmonger, Maison du Mouvement estudiantin pour la culture morale, Hôtel de l'Espérance, and more. There is also 1 porcelain card issued by the Institut Saint-Louis on the occasion of an old prize proclamation, around 35 fancy cards on the theme of Souvenir de Bruxelles, a few humorous cards around Manneken-Pis, 8 souvenir cards for the inauguration of the new parish church on Place du Jeu de Balle, and 7 double- or triple-fold cards. A fine and important Brussels collection, interesting both for urban history and for the capital's commercial, tourist and popular iconography.
