JUGEND. Münchner illustrierte Wochenschrift für Kunst und Leben. München und Leipzig, G. Hirth, 1896-1905. 20 volumes in-4° and 1 small table volume in-4°. Publisher's percaline. Joints cracked in 1897, several pp. loosened in 1899, t. I of 1902 partially loosened. Our copy is accompanied by the artists' table volume for the years 1896-1909. An important collection of the first ten years of this influential German art magazine, founded in Munich in 1896 by Georg Hirth. Initially devoted to the decorative arts and contemporary artistic life, Jugend soon became one of the main outlets for Jugendstil, the German version of Art Nouveau to which it gave its name. Richly illustrated in color and black, the magazine blends graphic arts, applied arts, literature, satire and visual modernity, in a wide variety of styles ranging from symbolism to impressionism, then to the first expressionist trends. With 1 duplicate vol.
