Remi LEYNET, "PAINTER" - Scandinavian impressions. - Lot 210
Remi LEYNET, "PAINTER" - Scandinavian impressions. S.l.s.n., s.d. [ca. 1952-53]. In-f°, in ff: [40] ff, 10 watercolors. Circles of wetness affecting the bottom of the volume. Hardcover illustrated with watercolors. Traces of drawstring. Rare painter's book entirely handwritten, printed in an edition of only 10 copies. This volume relates a journey made from June 20, 1952 to January 22, 1953, through Belgium, Holland, war-torn Germany, Denmark, Norway and, on the way back, Finland and Sweden, with the Arctic Circle, Lapland and the North Cape on the horizon. The free-spirited autograph text combines travel impressions, landscape descriptions, notes on the towns he passed through and observations on the aftermath of the conflict. Several passages are devoted to the life of the Lapps. The work is illustrated with 10 original watercolors outside the text; the justification also announces 66 pen-and-ink drawings in the volume. It reads: "The present volume contains ten original hors-texte, sixty-six pen drawings and is entirely handwritten. The original edition comprises ten volumes. Justification de tirage : exemplaire n° I." Enriched with an amusing autograph letter from the author to a friend "who will take great pleasure in looking for spelling mistakes". An endearing and rare autograph testimonial, at the crossroads of travel journal, illustrated book and artist's book.
