New edition. Vevey, P. A. Chenebie, 1756. In-8°: [8], 120, [2], 98 pp. The second part has been bound in at the head. Paper slightly browned, a few pencil lines, one or two stains. Contemporary calf, spine ribbed, pdt. Covers torn off. A pastor and naturalist from the canton of Vaud, Élie Bertrand was one of the first Swiss authors to treat seismic phenomena from both a historical and physical perspective. The work is part of the literature prompted by the Lisbon earthquake of November 1, 1755, and is of particular interest for the history of earthquakes in Switzerland in the 18th century. Ref. Haller I, 1164. e-rara ; Dictionnaire des journalistes (Institut Benjamin Franklin / Université de Lausanne) ; Bibliographie ECOS of the Swiss Seismological Service.
