Dupont fils, May-June 1819. In-8°: [4]-448 pp. Several spots and/or browning, more pronounced in fine. Contemporary fawn half-basane, marbled paper boards, smooth threaded spine, pdt. Stain at top of spine. First French edition of the travel report by Indo-Persian author Mirza Abu Talib Khan, first published in English in 1810 as The Travels of Mirza Abu Taleb Khan, in Asia, Africa, and Europe, during the Years 1799, 1800, 1801, 1802, and 1803. The work offers a particularly singular account of Europe as seen by an Oriental traveler at the turn of the 19th century; it is one of the first major travel accounts "à rebours", in which the West is observed, described and judged by a scholar from Asia. The Paris edition of 1819, published by Charles-Malo, bears the words "publiés, pour la première fois, en français" ("published, for the first time, in French"). Well provided with Charles Malo's signature.
