Le coeur populaire except magazine or newspaper articles (...) but not a solid work. I'm preparing something else, quite different from my poems, but in our time more than ever you need money and a sum to complete a Work or Works". He bitterly recalls the war of '14, which overwhelmed his book... "His manuscript of "Soliloques du Pauvre", enriched with drawings by Steinlen, fetched 20,000 francs at a public auction in Paris... Beautiful letter. Provenance: André Mélon's flying bookplate.
