Francesco PIRANESI - [Statue antiche]. Factitious collection containing 6 plates of this series. Ca 1792. Dimensions of the f. : 660 x 460 mm, Subject : 495 x 337 mm at the TC. Dull paper binding in green paper (stained). 6 plates from a series of 40, printed on laid paper. These plates, illustrating the most beautiful statues of Rome, are captioned in Italian and dated between 1781 & 1792. They were drawn by Piranesi after Tommaso Piroli for 4 plates and after Ludovico Corrazzari, for 2; each one is dedicated to a personality or a patron. They represent the Venus de Medici, the Hercules Farnese, the Flora Farnese, the Ares Ludovisi, the Ludovisi group (Suicide of the Galate), Orestes and Electra. Freckles, ring of wetness in the margin, some marginal soiling.
